My Healing Journey: How I Found My Way Back to Myself (Part 1)

Updated: Feb 25

For years, I lived with chronic pain, anxiety, and unexplained health symptoms that no treatment seemed to resolve. My healing journey began when I discovered the deep connection between emotions, the nervous system, and physical health. Through emotional healing and nervous system regulation, I experienced profound transformation, not just mentally and emotionally, but physically as well.

This is the story of how I found my way back to myself.

When My Body Started Speaking

My pain story began in 2000 with chronic back pain, a journey that would shape the next two decades of my life. What started as back pain evolved into years of chronic back pain, sciatica, and neck pain, with phases so severe that I needed continuous traction and couldn’t walk normally. My diagnosis was L4–L5 degenerative disc changes and disc arthropathy with a bulged disc. For 22 years, my life revolved around managing pain.

Then around 2011, more symptoms began appearing, anxiety, eczema, asthma, vertigo, headaches, chronic fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, and frequent illness. It felt like my body was constantly on high alert.

Despite countless tests and treatments, relief was always temporary.

When Even Food Felt Unsafe

Severe food sensitivities left very few foods feeling safe, and eating often felt frightening, like I was choking.

Something as basic as nourishment became a source of fear.

Living With Anxiety Without Knowing Its Name

At the time, I didn’t realize what I was experiencing was anxiety. My mind felt constantly overwhelmed, my body always on edge, and I had no tools to regulate what I was feeling.

I felt helpless and alone because no one truly understood. Counselling didn’t resonate with me, and I wasn’t ready for medication. Slowly, life began to feel overwhelming and strangely meaningless.

I felt trapped in my own body.

The Turning Point: Discovering Emotional Healing

Everything began to change when I discovered Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

For the first time, I wasn’t just managing symptoms, I was learning to understand my emotions and my body. I began with overwhelm and anxiety, but as I gently continued the work, layers slowly began to unfold.

Healing Through Nervous System Regulation

As I began processing emotions and working through unresolved trauma, I noticed something surprising, my body was changing too.

My pain softened, my symptoms became less intense, and my energy slowly returned.

Within about four months, the shift was profound. My anxiety faded, and for the first time in years, I felt in control of my thoughts and emotions. It felt like I had been given a second life.

Over time, my physical symptoms eased, asthma settled, eczema cleared, food sensitivities disappeared, and the many aches and pains I had lived with began to fade. I was sleeping better, walking without pain, and the chronic back pain that once defined my life no longer does. Now, I live with a sense of ease in my body that once felt impossible.

Healing Is Possible

Today, my body feels like an ally instead of an enemy. I trust it, listen to it, and honor what it needs.

Healing didn’t just bring relief from symptoms, it gave me a new relationship with myself and a deeper understanding of what my body had been trying to communicate all along.

And while this was my journey, the lessons it taught me continue to shape how I live, how I heal, and how I support others today.

In the next part, I share what truly helped me heal and the insights that transformed not just my health, but my life.

✨ If you’ve ever felt like your body was trying to tell you something, you’re not alone.
